The Evolve exists because the transition from trike to balance bike never happens on the week anyone expects. Set up one way it is a three-wheeled trike with pedals, built for a toddler who wants to get somewhere and has the leg strength to do it. Take the pedals off and bring the rear wheels together and the same frame is a proper balance bike, built for a child who wants to glide.
That matters more than it sounds. On a conventional path you buy a trike, your child outgrows it in a season, and you buy a balance bike that they may not be ready for yet. Here the rider decides which skill they feel like practising, and children turn out to be very good at picking the one they are ready for. Plenty of families go back and forth for months before the pedals come off for good.
It is the heaviest machine in the toddler half of the lineup, because converting frames need stronger joints than fixed ones. For a two-to-five-year-old with the strength to pedal, that trade is worth making.
